Designs for Pandaily

Pandaily is a Beijing-based media start-up that provides updates on the Chinese tech industry to English-speaking audiences. Since the launching of their new paid subscription system in September 2022, I have been working with their product team to design and redesign elements of the company's website in order to enhance user experience.

1. Profile Page

Previously, the website allowed users to create accounts and log in, but there was no functioning user profile page. The website relied on the default user dashboard on WordPress, which did not allow many actions to be taken.

With the new paid subscription system, users should be able to see, manage, and change the status of their subscription. The website would benefit much from a profile page/user center where users can perform actions related to their account.

This design is currently live at pandaily.com.

Considerations

The design of the profile page included the following considerations:

  • the display of the user's remaining available articles on the current subscription plan in the form of a progress bar makes the information more straightforward

  • the "manage notifications" function, which allows users to receive email updates with selected topics/categories they mark as interested

  • a settings page, where users are able to edit their basic information

  • a sharing page and corresponding referral mechanism, where users are able to share Pandaily's website with their friends. With each new user that signs up using their reference link, the user and the friend both unlock access to a certain number of available articles

  • a "favorited articles" page, where they can access and manage the articles they favorited previously. Accordingly, there is an added "favorite" button on the page of each article

- an "Add to Favorites" button is added to each article page

2. Exit-Intent Popup

In order to collect user feedback, an exit-intent popup survey that automatically appears when an user tries to leave the subscription page was designed and implemented.

The responses are collected anonymously and are added to a spreadsheet shared with the team.

3. Holiday Promotions

The company put out holiday season promotions that gave all users a 25% discount when subscribing to any paid plan. I designed posters (to be attached to emails and newsletters) and redesigned the website's homepage banner for promotion purposes.

4. Newsletter Button

The team wished to change the original "join our discord" banner into a button with which users can directly subscribe to the company's newsletter

The design differed for PC and mobile views due to the positioning of existing web elements.

The design was also made with consideration of the company's branding, making use of a warm orange color, the highlight color of the website's existing design, and the company's Panda logo.

5. Sign-in Page

Previously, the website used a combination of a default sign-in page with a customized background. The goal was to redesign the sign-in page to be more in line with the branding of the company.
